Dark mode is a must for those who use YouTube at night time. You can enable dark mode on YouTube from your computer, android device or iPhone/iPad. Let’s get started.

Enable Dark Mode on Computer

As we all know, YouTube doesn’t have a native application for computers. So, people use YouTube from web browsers on a computer. The YouTube web version comes with Appearance settings that detects your device theme and shows YouTube in that theme.

For example, if you are using a dark theme on your Windows computer, then YouTube will be in dark mode by default. If you are using a light theme, here’s how you can turn on dark mode on youtube. 

First of all, open a web browser on your computer and go to the web version of YouTube. Now you can be logged into your Google Account or not. 

If you are logged into your Google Account, click on your profile picture at the top right corner.

If you are not logged into any Google Account, click on the menu icon beside the SIGN IN button.

A menu will appear on your screen in both ways. Click on Appearance. Appearance only applies to your current browser, not on any other devices or browser.

By default, Use device theme is selected. Click on Dark theme. Instantly your YouTube will be in dark mode.

Enable Dark Mode on Android

If you are an Android user, you might have YouTube pre-installed on your device. Nobody uses YouTube on a mobile browser. YouTube Android app does have night mode on it. 

Like the web version of YouTube, Android app also detects the device theme and shows YouTube in that theme. So, if you are using Dark Mode on your Android device, your YouTube will be in dark mode, otherwise it will use light mode.

First of all, open the YouTube app on your device. Click on your profile picture at the top right corner.

Go to Appearance that contains your theme preference. By default, it’s selected as Use device theme. Select Dark theme and it will show YouTube in dark mode.

Enable Dark Mode on iPad/iPhone

If you are using the YouTube app on your iPhone/iPad, you can also turn on Dark Mode from the app. Here’s how:

  • Open the YouTube app on your iPad/iPhone and click on your Google Account profile picture. 
  • A menu will appear on your screen, click on Settings.
  • In the Settings page, click on General.
  • Unlike the web version, it doesn’t have Appearance settings. However, there’s a direct option called Dark theme. Toggle the button to enable dark mode.
